Australia Has Voted

Regardless of your political affiliation, Australians have voted for a future with climate change at the top of the agenda.

Following the May 2022 federal election, Australia entered a new phase of climate policy development. In September 2022, the Australian Parliament passed the Climate Change Act 2022, marking the country’s first federal climate legislation in over a decade.

The Act sets national targets for emissions reduction—43% below 2005 levels by 2030 and net zero by 2050—and introduces annual reporting requirements to track progress. While it does not impose direct obligations on businesses, it establishes a framework that may influence future regulatory and market developments. For organisations, this signals a growing emphasis on sustainability and transparency in environmental performance.
